Benefits that last

Inner strength and durability

A house frame made from our Aussie Steel is strong and durable. They don’t warp, twist, sag or shrink. They are strong and durable but remain up to 60% lighter than timber frames.

Straight and true

Prefabricated and dimensionally accurate, our frames are straight and true resulting in strong lines and a beautiful finish. Doors and windows open as they should.

Non-Combustible

Steel is a non-combustible material, so our steel frames won’t sustain or contribute to the spread of a fire – and it doesn’t ignite. Suitable for construction in all of the Bushfire Attack Levels in the NCC. NCC 2016 BCA Vol. 2 Part 3.7.4 Bushfire Areas.

A Cleaner Frame

You don’t have to worry about compromising your healthy living environment. Timber frames are susceptible to mould infestation and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s). Our TRUECORE steel frames don’t require additional chemical treatments, don’t support mould growth and don’t emit VOC’s.

Design Flexibility

Our house frames have impressive strength-to-weight ratios, allowing you to build and design with flexibility and to keep in touch with modern design trends. From non-conventional roof lines to highly individualised structures, steel provides design freedom to designers and architects.

50 Year Warranty

Eligible residential customers receive BlueScope’s 50 Year Warranty on TRUECORE Steel products. 50 years is a long time, enough time to ensure your home is future proofed to last the test of time and continue to provide a good return on your investment.

100% Termite Protection

Our steel house frames are 100% termite proof. You don’t need to worry about the structure or ongoing financial cost of termite protection on your home.

A Griffith University study identified the financial and environmental impact of the termite problem:

“There is an emerging huge cost to buildings and other wooden structures from termite damage in urban Australia.” (Griffiths University, Barry Noller et al, ‘Urban cities and termite attack.’)

Mr Robert Caulfield, Managing Director of Archicentre, the building advisory service of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects said, “Archircentre estimates that 650,000 homes around Australia have been damaged by termites costing $3.9 billion in treatment and repair typically over a cycle of five years. There is usually a time period of five years from the time of detection to treatment to eradicate the termites.”

Don’t expose your family to ongoing chemical treatments or the costs of structural termite damage.

Non-Combustible

Unlike timber, steel is a non combustible material and will not assist the spread of fire. The CSIRO Division of Building Research Victoria, produced a paper outlining the features of a house with hire fire-resistance. Major factors of fire resistance included:

  • Steel wall frames, with gypsum board linings for further protection
  • Eliminating timber in the roof (using steel trusses)
  • Concrete slab floor
  • Brick veneer external cladding

Our Steel Frames are suitable for construction in all of the Bushfire Attack Levels as identified in the National Construction Code * NCCC 2016 BCA Volume 2. Part 3.7.4 Bushfire Areas.

Burning Down the House (A Trial by Fire)

Scientists from the CSIRO ‘flame-tested’ a steel-framed house to see how the structure would stand up to realistic bushfire conditions. The test house undergoes a range of bushfire conditions, from ember attacks to engulfing the structure in flames.

Energy efficient housing

Steel frames have design flexibility for the construction of energy-efficient houses which can minimise energy usage for heating and cooling over it’s lifetime.

q

No need for repeated toxic treatments

Steel frames are termite proof, so there isn’t any need for the use of ongoing harmful chemical treatments. This can avoid harm to the environment and those who may have come in contact with the chemicals.
